1/3: Questioning
Questioning
1st March 2016
11.PEDGc - recap of corner ball lesson & blogsI used the start of today's lesson to recap the last lesson in terms of what learning had occurred & creating links back to the focus of the term - factors that influence participation. The point of recapping the last lesson was to make the links through questioning that I failed to make last lesson. Alex observed my questioning and gave me some points to work on.
Questioning - key points to work on:
- Map out questions that I will ask students - more prepared, better flow, won't miss anything out
- After asking a question give students time to process & answer. If faces are still blank then try to reword the question
- If a student answers a question & I'm building on their answer, use their terminology - helps to avoid confusion. If I'm going to change the terminology ask students what another word for that it or let them know e.g. not being eliminated for the game and getting to play more means the game has become more inclusive
2/2: BIS Meeting with SMT
2nd March 10.40AM
What is working well?
- 10POS ending up working really well. Although with the timetable change that happened on Monday she doesn’t teach this class any more.
- LI & SC: are becoming common practice linking back to term focus. Using a range of questions to help support this process.
- Mentoring is going well.
What do you need help with?
- Year 9 ELL - just need some behaviour management strategies. SMT suggested that this needs to become a small spiral inquiry into what might work for these students to keep them focused on their learning.
- 11PED F - one student who is forgetting gear. SMT suggested talking to house master first. Then put a strategy in place to help remind him.
- Find out about year 11 Health - SMT to get more information to BIS
PTCs and Inquiry
PTCs:
- BIS has started mapping out what evidence could be useful for each of the PTCs. Add this to blog as well.
- BIS blogging - three more blog entries to add: ‘what are they learning’ and ‘Questioning’, Review on readings.
- BIS to share Blog URL with SMT
Inquiry:
- Is a little stuck at the moment. Might look into getting some student voice. BIS is going to develop a google form for this.
